Active Ingredients:

  • Cetirizine

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Zyrtec is an antiallergic, antihistamine drug which selectively blocks peripheral histamine H1-receptors, reduces the effect of histamine on blood vessels, reduces edema and hyperemia. It effectively inhibits the development of skin reactions (wheal and hyperemia), caused by histamine. Zyrtec relieves the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (sneezing, runny nose, nasal stuffiness, itch, lacrimation).

Medical indications:

  • seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis
  • pollen allergy
  • allergic conjunctivitis
  • chronic idiopathic urticaria, skin itching, angioedema
  • complex therapy of atopic dermatitis, chronic eczema, bronchial asthma

Zyrtec contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity, including to Hydroxyzine
  • Pregnancy, lactation
  • Pediatric patients
  • With caution: renal and / or liver insufficiency, elderly patients

Zyrtec side effects:
As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Cetirizine. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Cetirizine may cause the following side effects:

  • nervous system and sensory organs: drowsiness, fatigue, agitation, headache, dizziness, anxiety, nervousness, emotional lability, concentration and thinking disorders, insomnia, depression, euphoria, confusion, amnesia, depersonalization, ataxia, poor movements coordination, tremor, hyperkinesis, leg cramps, paresthesia, dysphonia, myelitis, paralysis, ptosis, disturbance of vision and accommodation, eye pain, glaucoma, xerophthalmia, conjunctivitis, eye hemorrhage, ototoxicity, tinnitus, deafness, smell perversion
  • gastrointestinal tract: dry mouth, taste disturbance, increased appetite, anorexia, stomatitis (including ulcerative), color chang and swelling of tongue, increased salivation, increased cariosity, thirst, vomiting, dyspepsia, gastritis, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, melena, rectal bleeding, abnormal liver function
  • cardiovascular system: migraine
  • respiratory system: rhinitis, nasal bleeding, nasal polyps, sore throat, cough, sinusitis, bronchitis, increased bronchial secretion, bronchospasm, dyspnea, upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, hyperventilation
  • urogenital system: urinary retention, edema, polyuria, dysuria, hematuria, urinary tract infection, cystitis, decreased libido, dysmenorrhea, intermenstrual bleeding, menorrhagia, vaginitis
  • locomotor system: arthralgia, arthritis, arthrosis, myalgia, back pain, muscular weakness
  • skin: skin: dry skin, rash, vesiculous rash, itching, acne, furunculosis, dermatitis, eczema, hyperkeratosis, erythema, excessive sweating, alopecia, angioedema, hypertrichosis, photosensitivity, seborrhea
  • other: ailment, fever, chills, flushing, dehydration, diabetes mellitus, lymphadenopathy, breast pain, weight gain, allergic skin reactions, including urticaria
