Active Ingredients:

• Clarithromycin

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Biaxin contains the active ingredient Clarithromycin which belongs to a group of broad spectrum action macrolide antibiotics. Clarithromycin works by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins in the bacterial cells. It bind to 50S subunits of the ribosomes in the bacterial cells. It acts on intra and extracellular pathogens. Biaxin acts on a wide variety of microorganisms including gram positive and gram negative microorganisms. In therapeutic doses the medication exerts bacteriostatic action.

Medical indications:
Biaxin is approved to treat infectious diseases caused by susceptible to Clarithromycin microorganisms:

• Upper respiratory tract infections
• ENT infections (sinusitis, otitis)
• Lower respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Mycobacterial infections
• Eradication of Helicobacter pylori infections in patients with stomach and duodenal ulcers (only in combination therapy)

Biaxin contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Biaxin should not be taken in the following conditions:

• Liver failure
• Hepatitis (in anamnesis)
• Porphyria
• 1 trimester of pregnancy
• Lactation period (breastfeeding)
• Children under 12 years of age with body weight not less than 33kg
• Fructose intolerance
• Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
• Hypersensitivity to other macrolide antibiotics

Biaxin should be used with caution in patients with kidney failure, liver failure, 2 or 3rd trimester of pregnancy

Biaxin side effects:
As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Biaxin. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Biaxin may cause the following side effects: taste changes, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal pain, headache.
The less observed Biaxin side effects include: signs of liver damage, low blood sugar, seizures, bloody diarrhea, fainting, skin rash, swelling, wheezing.
If any side effects occur during the treatment make sure to consult your health care provider immediately. If you are unsure about anything related to Biaxin, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Drug interaction:
Biaxin can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

• Anti-epileptic drugs
• Certain benzodiazepines
• ED preparations

• Blood thinners
