Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Biaxin contains the active ingredient Clarithromycin which belongs to a group of broad spectrum action macrolide antibiotics. Clarithromycin works by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins in the bacterial cells. It bind to 50S subunits of the ribosomes in the bacterial cells. It acts on intra and extracellular pathogens. Biaxin acts on a wide variety of microorganisms including gram positive and gram negative microorganisms. In therapeutic doses the medication exerts bacteriostatic action.
Medical indications:
Biaxin is approved to treat infectious diseases caused by susceptible to Clarithromycin microorganisms:

Biaxin should not be taken in the following conditions:
Biaxin should be used with caution in patients with kidney failure, liver failure, 2 or 3rd trimester of pregnancy
Biaxin side effects:
As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Biaxin. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Biaxin may cause the following side effects: taste changes, diarrhea, vomiting, heartburn, abdominal pain, headache.
The less observed Biaxin side effects include: signs of liver damage, low blood sugar, seizures, bloody diarrhea, fainting, skin rash, swelling, wheezing.
