Keflex

Active Ingredients:

  • Cephalexin

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Keflex contains the active ingredient Cephalexin which belongs 1st generation cephalosporin antibiotics. Keflex acts bactericidally via interfering with the synthesis of bacterial cell's wall. Cephalexin is effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

Medical indications:
Keflex is used to treat infections caused by sensitive to Cephalexin infections:

  • Infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract infections
  • Infections of the urogenital system including pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, gynecological infections
  • Infections of the skin and soft tissue
  • Otitis media
  • Acute and chronic osteomyelitis
  • Endomethritis
  • Gonorrhea

Keflex contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Keflex should not be taken in:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredient
  • Severe liver diseases
  • Severe kidney diseases
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

Keflex should be used with caution in patients with known allergic reactions to penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics

Keflex side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Keflex. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated . Keflex may cause the following side effects:

  • Digestive system: in some cases - nausea, vomiting, dry mouth, increased activity of the liver's transaminases, jaundice, hepatitis
  • CNS: hallucinations, headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Hematopoietic system: leukopenia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia
  • Allergic reactions: skin rash, dermatitis, Quinke's edema
  • Other: candidiasis, arthralgia
