Levaquin contains the active ingredient called Levofloxacin which belongs to a group of medicines called fluoroquinolones. Levaquin works by blocking DNA-gyrase and topoisomerase IV, inhibits supercoiling and cross-link of DNA. Levaquin inhibits the DNA synthesis causing deep morphological changes in cytoplasma, cell wall and membranes in the microorganisms. Levaquin is effective against a wide variety of microorganisms including gram-positive, gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms.
