Active Ingredients:

  • Cefixime

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Suprax is a 3rd generation semi-synthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefixime acts bactericidally. Action mechanism of the medication is associated with inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cells membrane. Cefixime is resistant to the action of B-lactamase, which are produced by the most gram positive and gram negative bacteria.

Medical indications: Suprax is approved to treat infectious diseases caused by susceptible to cifixime microorganisms:

  • Pharyngitis
  • Tonsillitis
  • Sinusitis
  • Acute and chronic bronchitis
  • Otitis media
  • Uncomplicated forms of urogenital infections
  • Uncomplicated gonorrhea

Suprax contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Suprax should not be taken in the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

The medication should be used with caution in elderly patients, patients with kidney failure, pseudomembranous colitis, children under 6 years of age.

Suprax side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Suprax. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Suprax may cause the following side effects:

  • Digestive system: dry mouth, anorexia, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, meteorism, increased activity of the liver's enzymes, jaundice, candidiasis, colitis, stomatitis, glossitis.
  • CNS: drowsiness, headache
  • Urogenital system: interstitial nephritis
  • Allergic reactions: skin rash, hives, hyperemia of the skin, eosinophilia, fever

Drug interaction: Suprax can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • Calcium channel blockers
