Active Ingredients:

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Zithromax contains the active ingredient Azithromycin. Azithromycin is a broad spectrum antibiotic which works by inhibiting the synthesis of protein in the bacterial cell. Azithromycin binds to 50S subunits of the ribosome and inhibits the synthesis of bacterial proteins. Zithromax possesses a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity against gram positive and gram negative microorganisms, intracellular and atypical pathogens.

Medical indications: Zithromax is approved to to treat infections caused by sensitive to Azithromycin infections:

  • ENT infections
  • Infections of the upper respiratory system
  • Infections of the lower respiratory system
  • Infections of the skin and soft tissue
  • Sexually transmitted infections
  • Digestive system infections associated with Helicobacter pylori

Zithromax contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Zithromax should not be taken in:

  • Severe liver or kidney diseases
  • Hypersensitivity to Azithromycin or other components of the medication
  • Hypersensitivity to Macrolides
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

Zithromax should be taken with caution in: liver and dysfunctions, patients predisposed to arrhythmia and prolonged QT interval.

Zithromax side effects. As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Zithromax. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Zithromax may cause the following side effects:

  • The most common Zithromax side effects are: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, rash.
  • The less common Zithromax side effects are: bloody stool, severe diarrhea, irregular heart beat, itching.
