How does the medication work?

Generic Flovent is a glucocorticosteroid for inhalational application. It works by suppressing the proliferation of mast cells, eosinophils, macrophages, neutrophils, decreases production and release of inflammatory mediators and other biologically active substances (histamine, cytokines, leukotriens, Pg). In recommended doses it exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic action, decreases symptoms, frequency of aggravations accompanied by airways obstruction (bronchial asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema). In therapeutic doses it does not exert systemic action.

Why is Flovent prescribed?

Generic Flovent (fluticasone) is used in basis treatment of bronchial asthma in adults and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

When Flovent should not be taken?

  • Acute bronchospasm
  • Asthmatic status
  • Bronchitis of non-asthmatic origin
  • Children
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredient
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

The medication should be used with caution:

  • Liver cirrhosis
  • Glaucoma
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Systemic infections (bacteria, fungal, parasitic and viral)
  • Osteoporosis
  • Lung tuberculosis

What side effects are possible with Flovent ?

Local reactions: oral thrush, hoarseness, bronchospasm, hoarseness, paradoxal bronchospasm.

Allergic reactions: skin rash, angioedema, bronchospasm, anaphylactic reaction.

Systemic reactions: decreased function of adrenal cortex, osteoporosis, growth retention in children, increase of intraocular pressure, glaucoma, Cushing syndrome.

In rare cases the medication may cause psychotic disorders.
