Active Ingredients:

  • rosuvastatin calcium

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Crestor contains the active ingredient Rosuvastatin. Rosuvastatin belongs to a group of medicines called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. By inhibiting this enzyme Rosuvastatin prevents the production of cholesterol by the liver cells. Crestor increases the amount of LDL receptors on the cells' surface, increases reuptake and catabolism of LDL. This leads to inhibiting the synthesis of VLDL. Rosuvastatin also increases the amount of HDL ("good cholesterol").

Medical indications: Crestor is indicated for the treatment of the following conditions:

  • Primary hypercholesterolemia
  • Hypertriglyceridemia
  • Dysbetalipoproteinemia
  • Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
  • Prophylaxis of atherosclerosis

Crestor contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Liver disease in active phase including increased activity of transaminases
  • Kidney dysfunction (Creatinine clearance less than 30ml/min)
  • Myopathy
  • An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding

Crestor side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Crestor. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated.

  • Crestor may cause the following side effects: muscles pain, joint pain, headache, nausea, constipation, body weakness, constipation, abdominal pain, dizziness.
  • Serious Crestor side effects include: sings of liver damage, muscles pain, problems with memory, signs of kidney dysfunction, sings of pancreatitis.
