Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Lovastatin is an anticholesterol preparation which belongs to a group of medicines called statins. Action mechanism of the medication is associated with blocking the enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the biosynthesis of cholesterol. Decreased production of choleterol makes liver to collect and eliminate ''bad cholesterol'' from the blood. Lovastatin also lowers the production of tryglycerides and increases blood levels of "good cholesterol".

Mevacor should be used with caution in: chronic alcoholism, organs transplantation, chronic kidney failure, urgent surgical manipulation.
Mevacor side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Mevacor. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated.
