Tricor

Active Ingredients:

  • fenofibrate

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Tricor is an anticholesterol preparation which belongs to a group of medicines called fibrates. Fenofibrate possesses a possibility to change the amount of lipids in the organism via activating the receptors PPAR-?, lipoproteinlypase and decreases the synthesis apoprotein C-III. All of these effects lead to lowering blood levels of LDL and VLDL which are sometimes called "bad cholesterol".

Medical indications: Tricor is indicated in the following conditions:

  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • Hypertriglyceridemia
  • Reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes

Tricor contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Trcor should not be taken if any of these conditions apply to you:

  • Liver failure (including liver cirrhosis)
  • Kidney failure (creatinine clearance less than 20ml/min
  • Gall bladder diseases
  • Galactose intolerance
  • Children and adolescent under 18 years of age
  • Breastfeeding
  • Pregnancy
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients

The medication should be used with caution in thyroid problems, alcoholism, elderly age, kidney diseases

Tricor side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Tricor. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated.

  • Tricor may cause the following side effects: difficult breathing, chest pain, headache, runny nose, diarrhea, nausea, weakness, flu-like symptoms.
  • Serious and less common Tricor side effects include: chest pain, edema, joint pain, muscles pain, migraine, dizziness, insomnia, depression.

If any side effects occur during the treatment make sure to consult your health care provider immediately. If you are unsure about anything related to Tricor, please talk to your doctor or pharmacist.

Drug interaction:
Tricor can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • Statins
  • Blood thinners
  • Bile acid sequestrants (resins)
  • Immunosupressors
