Active Ingredients:

  • simvastatin

The commercial name of the medication may differ from the brand one. Generic Zocor manufactured by Okasa is available under commercial name Simlip.

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Zocor contains the active ingredient Simvastatin which is obtained synthetically from the fermentation product Aspergillus terreus. Simvastatin is metabolized into its active form in the organism where it blocks the enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the production and synthesis of cholesterol by the liver cells. Zocor lowers the amount of cholesterol in the blood, LDL, VLDL, triglycerides.

Medical indications: Zocor is approved to treat the following conditions:

  • Hypercholesterolemia
  • High triglycerides blood levels
  • Reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes
  • Reducing the progression of atherosclerosis

Zocor contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Zocor should not be taken in the following conditions:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the drug ingredients
  • Pregnancy
  • Breastfeeding
  • Liver diseases
  • Increased activity of transamines

Zocor should be used with caution in patients who abuse alcohol

Zocor side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Zocor. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Zocor may cause the following side effects:

  • Digestive system: stomach pain, constipation, meteorism, nausea, dyspepsia, vomiting, jaundice, increased activity of transaminases
  • CNS: headache, dizziness, paresthesia, peripheral neuropathy.
  • Allergic reactions: Quinke's edema, vasculitis, thrombocytopenia, eosinophilia, increased BSR (blood sedimentation rate), hives, photosensibilization, fever, hyperemia of the skin, labored breathing.
  • Other: asthenia, anemia, increased CPK (creatine phosphokinas), in rare cases myopathy.
