Diane-35
Active Ingredients:
- cyproterone acetate and ethinylestradiol
Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Diane 35 is a low-dose combined oral monophasic contraceptive with anti-androgenic effect. Contraceptive effect of the medication is achieved due to several mechanisms:
- Ovulation suppression by inhibiting the release of gonadotrophic hormones
- Emdomethrium medications
- Modifications of cervical mucous
Along with contraceptive effect, Diane-35 possesses potent anti-androgenic effect. Cyproterone decreases the effects of andronens (male sex hormones) on male organism. This helps treat diseases associated with increased production of androgens such as acne, seborrhea, hirsutism and alopecia.
Medical indications:
Diane-35 is indicated to prevent undesirable pregnancy and to treat androgen-dependent and hyper-androgenic diseases:
- Acne (especially expressed forms accompanied by seborrhea)
- Androgenic alopecia
- Hirsutism
Diane - 35 contraindications, precautions and warnings:
Diane-35 is contraindicated for use in the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
- Idiosyncrasy (including history of hypersensitivity) components Diane-35
- Severe liver damage and liver tumors
- Dubin-Johnson and Rotor syndrome (hereditary benign hyperbilirubinemia);
- Diseases accompanied by disorders of hemostasis with a tendency to thrombosis,
- Thromboembolic processes (transient ischemic attack, angina, cerebrovascular disorders, troke, myocardial infarction, thrombosis of deep veins, pulmonary embolism)
- Diabetes mellitus with vascular complications (diabetic microangiopathy);
- Sickle-cell anemia
- Breast cancer and endometrial cancer, hormone-dependent cancers
- Endometriosis
- Lipid metabolism, pancreatitis (including history) if it is accompanied by severe hypertriglyceridemia
- Idiopathic jaundice in pregnancy
- Severe pruritus or herpes in pregnant women
- History of otosclerosis progression during pregnancy
- Vaginal / uterine bleeding of unknown etiology
- A history of migraine accompanied by focal neurological symptoms
- Pregnancy and lactation
The medication should not be used in men:
- Diabetes mellitus
- Arterial hypertension
- Varicose veins
- Multiple sclerosis
- Epilepsy
- Porphyria
- Tetany
- Chorea
If any of these conditions appear for the first time while taking Diane-35, immediately stop taking this medication and consult a physician.
Diane 35 side effects:
As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Diane - 35. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated . Diane - 35 may cause the following side effects:
- Endocrine and gynecological organs: a sense of tension and soreness in the breast, breast enlargement, changes in body weight and sex drive, menstrual-like bleeding, changes in vaginal secretions.
- The central nervous system: headache (migraine), depressive mood.
- Gastrointestinal tract: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain
- Cardiovascular system: high blood pressure.
- Dermatological reactions: chloasma, skin rash, itching, redness
- Other: poor tolerance of contact lenses.

Drug interaction:
Diane - 35 can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:
- Inductors of microsomal liver enzymes (rifampicin, phenytoin, carbamazepine, topiramate)
- ACE inhibitors
- Angiotensin II receptor blockers
- Antibiotics
- Seizures medications
- Blood thinners
- NSAID's
- Potassium containing products
- Potassium-sparing diuretics
- Protease inhibitors
- Xantines
- Immunosuppressors
- Sleep apnea treatment
