Active Ingredients:

  • Ethinyl estradiol
  • Levonorgestrel

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Alesse contains a combination of estrogen and progestin hormones. Birth control effect is related to inhibiting the release of gonadotropic hormones such as luteinizing and follicle- stimulating hormones. By inhibiting these hormones the medication suppresses ovulation. In additional, Alesse modifies the viscosity of the uterine mucous lining making the movement of the sperm cells nearly impossible.

In most cases the preparation is well tolerated . Generic Alesse may cause the following side effects:

  • The most common Alesse side effects include: swelling or tenderness of the breast, headache, acne, vaginal bleedings , nausea, bloating, vomiting, stomach disturbances, intolerance of contact lenses, libido changes (increased or decreased).
  • Less common generic Alesse side effects include: signs of strokes, signs of liver damage, signs of blood clot in the legs, vaginal bleedings, depression, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, migraine, pain in the chest, vision changes, allergic reactions.
