Celexa

Active Ingredients:

  • Citalopram

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Celexa is an antidepressant with a minimal sedative effect. Selectively inhibits neuronal serotonin reuptake in the brain. Citalopram normalizes the emotional condition, improves the pathologically changed mood, eliminates depression and melancholy. Stimulates motor activity and accelerates the processes of thinking in depression.

Medical indications:

  • Depression of various etiologies and structures
  • Panic disorder with or without agoraphobia
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Celexa contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity to citalopram
  • Mania, hypomania
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • With caution: drug dependence (including history), liver and / or renal failure, seizures, pediatric and geriatric use.

Celexa side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Citalopram. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated . Citalopram may cause the following side effects:

  • nervous system: drowsiness, insomnia, weakness, fatigue, asthenia, agitation (anxiety), extrapyramidal disorders, emotional lability, euphoria, mania, panic behavior, confusion, depersonalization, hallucinations, psychosis, seizures
  • digestive system: dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, wind, abdominal pain, anorexia
  • cardiovascular system: possible slight decrease in heart rate, which usually has no clinical significance (in patients with initially low heart rate it can lead to bradycardia)
  • respiratory system: upper respiratory tract infection, rhinitis, sinusitis
  • hematopoiesis: thrombocytopenia
  • urogenital system: sexual dysfunctions, abnormal ejaculation, decreased libido, menstrual irregularities (dysmenorrhea), urination disorders
  • allergic reactions: skin rash, itching
  • other: sweating, pyrexia (fever), hyponatremia, arthralgia, myalgia, yawning, weight loss or gain.

Drug interaction: Celexa can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • MAO inhibitors
  • serotoninergic drugs
  • histamine antagonists
  • indirect anticoagulants
  • beta1 selective blockers
  • other antidepressants
