Active Ingredients:

  • Paroxetine

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Paroxetine is an antidepressant. It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, enhances serotonergic transmission in the CNS. Paroxetine helps to decrease anxiety and depression.

Medical indications:

  • Depression
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder
  • Panic disorders

Paroxetine contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Breastfeeding
  • With caution: angle-closure glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, pregnancy

Paroxetine side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Paroxetine. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Paroxetine may cause the following side effects:

  • drowsiness or somnolence, irritability, concentration disorder, emotional lability, amnesia, dizziness, paresis of accommodation
  • mydriasis, eye pain, noise and pain in the ears
  • rise or fall in blood pressure, syncope, tachycardia or bradycardia, cardiac conduction and peripheral circulation disorders
  • cough, rhinitis, dipnoe, tachypnea
  • nausea, decreased appetite, indigestion, increase in liver transaminases
  • stomatitis, arthralgia, arthritis, dysuria, polyuria,urinary incontinence, urinary retention, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, miscarriage, mastitis , abnormal ejaculation, decreased libido and potency
  • peripheral edema, decrease or increase in body weight, anemia, leukopenia, allergic reactions (itching, rash, chills).

Drug interaction:
Paroxetine can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • Inductors and inhibitors of microsomal oxidation
  • Anticholinergics
