Active Ingredients:

  • Pioglitazone

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Actos is hypoglycemic drug. It modulates the transcription of genes sensitive to insulin and participating in the control of blood glucose level and lipid metabolism in adipose and muscle tissues and liver. Actos lowers insulin resistance of peripheral tissues and liver, increases the consumption of insulin-responsive glucose, reduces the yield of glucose from the liver, reduces levels of blood glucose, insulin, and glycated hemoglobin in the blood.

Medical indications:

  • type 2 diabetes mellitus

Actos contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Diabetes mellitus type 1, diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Acute liver disease
  • ALT level exceeding the standard in 2,5 times
  • Pregnancy
  • Breast-feeding
  • With caution: adolescent patience

Actos side effects:
As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Pioglitazone. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Pioglitazone may cause the following side effects:

  • hypoglycemia
  • edema
  • anemia
  • reduced levels of bilirubin, SGOT, ALT, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyltransferase

Drug interaction:
Actos can potentially interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • sulfonamides
  • other hypoglycemic drugs
