Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:
Metformin is a biguanide hypoglycemic agent for oral administration. In patients with diabetes reduces the concentration of glucose in the blood by inhibiting gluconeogenesis in the liver, reducing glucose absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, and enhancing its utilization in the tissues. Metformin stabilizes or reduces body weight, improves the fibrinolytic characteristic of blood.
Medical indications:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults (including in the ineffectiveness of sulfonylurea), particularly in cases accompanied by obesity
