Ranitidine belongs to a group of drugs, called histamine-2 blockers. The medication reduces the amount of acid produced by a stomach. Ranitidine is used in stomach ulcers treatment and prevention. It is also useful as a treatment of conditions in which the stomach produces such amount of acid. It also may be used for gastroesophageal reflux disease treatment and other diseases that make acid back up from the stomach into esophagus and as a result cause heartburn.

The side effects of Ranitidine include:

  • From the locomotor system: myalgia, artralgia
  • From the endocrine system: hyperprolactinemia, gynecomastia, amenorrhea, decreased sexual potency
  • Allergic reactions: hives, skin rash, angioedema, allergic shock, bronchospasm
  • Other: baldness, hypercreatinemia, acute porphyria
