How does Norvasc work and what pharmaceutical group does it belong to?

Norvasc is in a group of medications called slow calcium channel blockers. Norvasc works by connecting with dihydropyridine receptors and blocks slow calcium channels, it inhibits calcium transmembrane transmission into the cells of the smooth muscle in heart tissue and vessels. It possesses antihypertensive and antianginal effect. Amlodipine reduces myocardial ischemia: relaxes and dilates coronary arteries, peripheral arteries including and ischemic areas.

Norvasc reduces lethality of heart attacks and strokes . The medication does not exert an adverse effect to metabolism and blood plasm concentration.
