Generic Cytomel

Active Ingredients:

  • liothyronine sodium

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication:

Generic Cytomel contains the active ingredient liothyronine sodium which is synthetic analogue of the hormone T3 (triiodothyronine) of the thyroid gland. Liothyronine sodium stimulates the growth and development of tissue, increases the demand in oxygen, stimulates metabolism of the proteins, lipids and carbohydrates, increases the functional activity of the cardiovascular system and central nervous system. In high doses inhibits the production of thyrotropic hormone.

Medical indications: Generic Cytomel is indicated in

  • Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
  • different types of goiters (including thyroid nodules)
  • Aid in the diagnosis of certain thyroid problems.

Generic Cytomel contraindications, precautions and warnings:

The medication should not be taken if any these conditions apply to you:

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the medication ingredients
  • Severe cardiovascular diseases (including exortional stenocardia)
  • Untreated insufficiency of the adrenal cortex function
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the drug ingredients
  • Diabetes
