Tamiflu

Active Ingredients:

  • Oseltamivir

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication: Tamiflu is an antiviral pro- drug which belongs to a class of drugs called selective neuraminidase inhibitor. The drug suppresses release of the newborn viruses from the infected cells and overall virus spreading through the organism. The active metabolite of the drug affects A and B viral strains, suppresses viral replication and decreases the pathogenicity of the virus.

Medical indications: Oseltamivir is mainly prescribed in treatment of influenza virus A and B type in adults and children older then 12 years.

Tamiflu contraindications, precautions and warnings:

  • Hypersensitivity to any components of the preparation
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Children younger then 12 years
  • Renal failure

Take caution when using the preparations in:

  • Liver failure

Oseltamivir side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Tamiflu. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated. Oseltamivir may cause the following side effects:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Bronchitis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dizziness
  • Headache
  • Coughing
  • Insomnia
  • Vertigo
  • Weakness
