Zovirax

Active Ingredients:

  • acyclovir

Action mechanism and therapeutic effect of the medication: Acyclovir is an antiviral drug. The drug works by inhibiting the synthesis of the viral DNA and is effective in treatment of herpes family viruses as well as cytomegalovirus and Epstein-Barr virus.

Medical indications: Zovirax is indicated in the following treatments:

  • Skin and mucous membrane herpes viral infections
  • Prophylaxis of recurrent genital herpes
  • Prophylaxis of herpes virus in immuno-compromised patients
  • Treatment of Varicella Zoster virus

Zovirax contraindications, precautions and warnings: The drug must not be used in cases of:

  • Hypersensitivity to acyclovir or any other components of the preparation

The drug should be used with caution in:

  • Dehydration
  • Renal failure

Acyclovir side effects: As with any other drug, side effects can occur with Zovirax. However, it does not mean that everyone who takes the medicine will experience these adverse effects. In most cases the preparation is well tolerated . Acyclovir may cause the following side effects:

  • Headache
  • Fatigability
  • Neurological disorders
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Intestinal colic
  • Hyperthermia

  • Lymphoadenopathy
  • Increased levels of bilirubin, urea, creatine
